Harnessing your passion to pioneer a new sport, define a lifestyle and create a business with your own two hands. Jeremy Jensen
Jeremy Jensen, Episode 009
Founder, Grassroots Powdersurfing
Jeremy Jensen is the owner and founder of Grassroots Powdersurfing, a company that handcrafts custom “powsurfers”. Jeremy has spent the past decade pioneering and laying the groundwork for an entirely new form of mountain riding and lifestyle that he calls “Powdersurfing”. His specially designed boards allow riders to truly surf mountains, hands-free and binding-free, creating a whole new way to skillfully interact with the environment and enabling a new avenue for self-expression.
Jeremy learned to ski at the age of 2 and began snowboarding at 13 years old, spending over two decades as a sponsored snowboard athlete. A lifetime obsession with surfing, skateboarding and snowboarding combined with 38 years of mountain riding experience inspired the discovery and creation of “powdersurfing” a form of “surfing on snow” where riders balance on specially shaped boards and ride without any attachment to the board.
Grassroots Powdersurfing’s success has been built entirely by Jeremy, acting as the designer, shaper, and builder of the boards themselves as well as the artist, photographer, videographer, editor, PR specialist, marketer, web designer, media specialist, shipper, communicator and more. This one man machine has passionately fueled a world-wide movement that is taking snowboarding back to its roots and re-defining the possibilities of true binding-free mountain surfing. His influence has infiltrated the entire snowboard industry, bringing a refreshing change to board shaping and powder specific design.
Jeremy received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Design from Utah State University in 2004 and a Master of Fine Arts from Utah State University in 2014. Aside from his many full-time roles for Grassroots, he currently works as a full time videographer and media specialist for Utah State University and is also an adjunct faculty there teaching video production courses.
