Retired combat photographer, Melinda Bigley, has begun a successful career in the quilting and embroidery business. After creating a sewing channel on YouTube, she was asked to become a National Baby Lock Educator. According to Melinda, “Baby Lock is the ultimate union for me, as they not only make the highest quality sewing machines, they are a family owned and run company and carry with them family values and the highest integrity. I have never been as excited about a career as I am right now working with Baby Lock doing exactly what I love: helping people learn to find their passion through creating on their sewing machines.” Clearly, her current career is the polar-opposite of taking pictures in a war zone, half-way around the world, in Iraq. Oddly, Melinda is and was equally intrigued by these glaringly disparate occupations. She states that, “The business world can be likened to a combat zone in some ways in that everyday carries with it a varying tasks in which you are perpetually being challenged to problem solve in order to prevail. According to Darwin, it is not the strongest or smartest of us who survive and thrive, it’s those who most easily and successfully adapt to change. And I love adore change!”
